A Jacksonville Producer Turns a Friendly Sample Challenge Into Lo-Fi Hip-Hop with a Dark Edge

Coffin Pop starts with a warped, glitchy melody that flickers in and out of focus. Then a buzzing low end rolls in underneath, and the beat settles into a slow, steady nod. It is an instrumental for listeners who like their lo-fi hip-hop with a little dread in it, made by Blakk Dogg, a Jacksonville producer who calls his style Graveyard LoFi.

Blakk Dogg’s music is in the playlist below, and the artist’s coverage across the network is gathered on the Blakk Dogg profile. Coffin Pop came to GetMusic.News through PopHits.Co Music Charts, which verifies independent artists and places their releases across its network of music news sites. Queue it up, then read on for how a sample challenge between friends turned into the opening track of his album.

The song came out on 15 October 2025, and two weeks later it opened his album Graveyard Lofi Vol. 1. Listeners who keep lo-fi beats running while they work, but find most of those playlists a little too polite, will hear the difference straight away. Fans of experimental electronic music, meanwhile, will find plenty to pick apart in the noise and distortion under the groove.

The track began as a friendly challenge. Friends sent Blakk Dogg random sound samples, and he set out to build a beat that used every one of them. What started as an experiment turned out too strong to leave in a folder, so it went on the album instead.

He made it at home, without a big studio. Rather than digging through vinyl crates or wiring up analogue gear, Blakk Dogg built the beat in software. He also experimented with a noise and distortion device to give it its ghostly edge.

Four Music Sites in Three Languages Picked Up Coffin Pop by Blakk Dogg Within Two Months

The early response to Coffin Pop came from several directions at once. That suits a track built for a broad, international audience of beat listeners.

In France, IGGY Magazine wrote about it in November 2025. The magazine focused on the mix of shadow and lightness. It noted how the song carries heavy feelings such as paranoia, fear and confusion while staying accessible, even catchy.

In Brazil, Os Garotos de Liverpool introduced Blakk Dogg to its readers in December 2025. It described Coffin Pop as a fully instrumental track built on hip-hop beats and highly experimental elements. Touches of alternative and progressive music drift in too. It also passed on the detail about the DIY recording and the distortion device.

Back in English, Hella Fuzz heard an eerie swagger in the beat and praised how homemade it feels. Meanwhile, Illustrate Magazine walked through the arrangement in detail. Its review moved from the calm, glitched opening to the heavier buzzing tones and rustling noise that arrive later. It ended by suggesting that, if Graveyard LoFi becomes a recognised style, Coffin Pop makes a strong case for it.

Taken together, the four reviews agree on one thing. The song is catchy and unsettling at the same time, and neither quality cancels the other out. For a three-minute instrumental with no vocals to carry it, that is a lot of character.

GetMusic.News’s curator team: “What we like about Coffin Pop is that it works in two rooms at once. Play it quietly and it keeps a study session moving. Turn it up, and the distortion makes the same beat much stranger.”

Graveyard Lofi Vol. 1, Close Friends and the Small Community Growing Around Blakk Dogg

Coffin Pop is the first of eight tracks on Graveyard Lofi Vol. 1, released on 31 October 2025. The rest of the running order keeps the theme: Dirge, Fall Down Hard, Destitute Children, Slow Burn, Satan’s Piano, Reckoning and Shadows. On Bandcamp, the album is tagged experimental hip-hop, boom bap, lo-fi, underground and Jacksonville. That is a fair map of where the music lives.

Community runs through the whole story. The song exists because friends sent him sounds to play with, and collaboration is not new for him either. Back in 2021, he released the Danger EP together with fellow artist Jakbo. Before Graveyard Lofi Vol. 1 came PEOPLE. in October 2024. Since then, the singles have kept coming, with Noise Complaint and Wreckloosive both arriving in May 2026.

His Bandcamp page also shows the company he keeps as a listener. Blakk Dogg uses it to recommend records by volcano!, Melt Yourself Down and Pile. That spread of jazz-punk, art rock and noise explains why his beats refuse to sit still. Anyone who enjoys Coffin Pop and wants to go further could do worse than follow those recommendations.

Where to Hear Coffin Pop and Follow Blakk Dogg Across Every Platform

That home-built approach links him to two very different heroes of the beat world. J Dilla set the template for the loose, slightly off-grid swing that lo-fi hip-hop still chases, most famously on Donuts in 2006. Blakk Dogg counts Flying Lotus as a major influence. On Los Angeles and Cosmogramma, Flying Lotus showed how dense, detailed beats could be built inside a computer. Coffin Pop takes the head-nod of the first and the detail of the second, then pushes both somewhere darker.

So, for listeners who already live in lo-fi hip-hop playlists, Coffin Pop is a welcome shadow among the sunny loops. For fans of experimental electronic music and Flying Lotus-style beat-makers, it is a homemade curiosity worth turning up loud. Either way, it is a strong introduction to a producer with a clear identity.
