Experience the Eclectic Power Pop Journey Crafted in the Heart of England’s Melksham
‘Louder Than Sound’ is the latest offering from UK-based singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist, Blake. This 12-track album stands as a testament to his rich musical journey and an exploration of classic power pop sounds. Born and raised in the quaint town of Melksham in Wiltshire, Blake has poured his heart and soul into crafting this vibrant collection of guitar-led tracks, capturing the essence of retro guitar rock pop.
Blake’s approach to ‘Louder Than Sound’ is deeply rooted in the tradition of pure power pop classics.
As he explains, “Louder Than Sound is my attempt to craft a long-player of songs that loosely fit the brief of ‘Power Pop’ – catchy three-minute, hook-laden guitar-led songs.”
The album was brought to life at the prestigious Nam Studios, a venue famous for producing iconic albums by Robert Plant, Royal Blood, and KT Tunstall.
“The live room there is fantastic and I was aided to get a phenomenal sound by ace producer, Jacob Tyghe,” adds Blake.

In ‘Louder Than Sound’, Blake masterfully channels the influences of power pop legends, most notably Badfinger. His admiration for the band is not just fleeting; it becomes apparent in tracks like ‘Something About You’, which is dedicated to Badfinger and composed of lyrics inspired by their songs. Blake recalls, “I was listening to a lot of Badfinger when I wrote the songs for the record and their influence is all over it. I got stuck in a lift with Joey Molland, the band’s sole surviving member, at the International Beatleweek festival in Liverpool a few years ago and I’ve been a massive fan of the band ever since.”
Blake’s musical journey hasn’t been an overnight success. Before embarking on his solo career, he was signed to the London-based label Ecto Music with his psychedelic rock band, Karma Truffle, who shared stages with prominent names like The Arctic Monkeys in the noughties. His transition from a band frontman to a solo singer-songwriter showcases his ability to embrace and reinvent an eclectic range of musical styles. His Lo-Fi, DIY recordings with Karma Truffle eventually led to a contract with indie label Subjangle in 2020.
In addition to his unparalleled talent as a composer and performer, Blake also demonstrates a keen sense for narrative and emotional depth. His single ‘Vinyl Junkie’ became a notable soundtrack in the Brit crime film ‘24 Hours to Live or Die’. Blake’s ability to weave personal experiences into his music allows listeners to form profound connections with his work.
“Blake’s ‘Louder Than Sound’ is not just an album; it’s an eclectic journey through the best of classic and indie rock. His instinct to intertwine personal narratives with genre influences sets him apart,” remarks the PopHits.Co music curator team.
For those eager to experience the rich sonic tapestry of Blake’s latest project, pre-orders for ‘Louder Than Sound’ are available from 27th October.
