Esbe’s ‘Mountain Aires’ – Fine Tunes Drawn from Nature
“Taking cues from my mixed heritage, travel, as well as human history, ‘Mountain Aires’ is a tribute to the guitar,” Esbe explains. Her control over the guitar and her clear style show in every track. With hints from Julian Bream, John McLaughlin, as well as John Abercrombie, her music holds a deep quality born from a long musical journey.
Esbe worked hard to build a sound world that shows the feel of mountain views. Songs such as “Ghost River Valley Night Walk” and “Lalibela” take hints from jazz while still showing the calm of the landscapes that shaped them. Her careful guitar work, along with open and soft notes, makes the album a peaceful sound trip.
Among Esbe’s best pieces is “Echo Canyon, Only You, Sweet Child of Mine,” a remake of songs by Alison Moyet and Guns N’ Roses. Only Esbe would mix these two songs: Slash’s famous riff plus the synth arpeggio behind “Only You” copied with fine harmonics. The melodies unfold clearly, played as if across the canyon.
“Leaving behind the rush and loud noise of the city and sitting alone with nature – the birds or just the breeze – I chose to show the feel of mountain views and their setting,” Esbe says about her work process. In her North London studio, she recorded and layered each guitar part with care, similar to how she built up vocals in her folk a cappella record, ‘Blow The Wind Southerly’.
Esbe turns visual scenes into simple musical tunes. Her thoughtful way of composing, sometimes like making a soundtrack for a film that exists only in the mind, fills each note with life. This quality makes ‘Mountain Aires’ an album you will want to hear again and again.

Noted for the album cover photo and design done by Esbe herself, ‘Mountain Aires’ also benefits from the work of Angie Lemon PR. The album comes out through New Cat, timed with National Guitar Day, and is sure to please fans of simple ambient, classical, along with acoustic guitar music.
